چکیده

Background: Epilepsy is a common chronic neurological disorder with more than half of cases beginning in childhood. Most patients require long-term, and sometimes life-long, therapy antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). AEDs are associated significant side effects including radiological evidence rickets, decreased bone mineral density (BMD), altered turnover, increased risk fracture.
Aim the Study: To assess epileptic children getting long term anti-epileptic drugs.
Materials Methods: This study was conducted Saleh Child Development Disability Management Center (SCDDMC), Institute Mother Health (ICMH) Matuail, Dhaka. A total 31 childrens age ranged 5-15 years diagnosed as epilepsy on basis both clinical examination investigation (EEG) receiving (AEDS) for at least two were recruited this study.
Results: Almost third (61.3%) group 5 to 10 12(38.7%) 15 years. Around three fourth (74.2%) male 8(25.8%) female. More (67.7%) had adequate sun exposure (77.4%) got calcium vit.D rich food. (96.8%) serum normal. The mean 9.22±0.78 mg/dl. BMD spine 0.66±0.14. neck left femur 0.66±0.15. right low (<-1SD) Z score. (60.0%) showed score normal (>-1SD) 6(28.6%) (<-1SD). (71.4%) poly 4(20.0%) No association found between type duration therapy.
Conclusion: due use mono-therapy or assessment among essential.

Epilepsy represents the most common serious neurological disorder, with a prevalence of 0.4 - 1%. Approximately 30% of patients are resistant to currently available drugs. New anti-epileptic drugs are needed to treat refractory epilepsy, improve upon current therapies, improve the prognosis of epilepsy and to prevent the epileptogenic process. Designing compounds with specific physiological tar...

Neurodevelopmental effects of anti-epileptic drugs.

Use of medication with a desired effect on the central nervous system (as with anti-epileptic drugs) in children will undoubtedly cause concern about neurodevelopment. Data are emerging to suggest an effect of anticonvulsants on the developing brain of the unborn child when administered to mothers with epilepsy. This obviously requires detailed evaluation, especially when considering the risks ...

Bone mineral density changes during treatment of rheumatoid arthritis with disease-modifying-anti-rheumatic drugs

Background: Bone mineral density (BMD) changes during the course of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The present study was designed to investigate the status of BMD in patients with RA treated with anti-rheumatic drugs. Methods: BMD at the femoral neck (FN-BMD) and lumbar spine (LS-BMD) were measured by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) method using Norland densitometer. Disease activity (DA) wa...
